GPAC is a FLOSS multi-platform streaming and transcoding utility that has been mentioned a couple of times around TPFC -- mostly apropos MP4Box -- so I thought it was high time to givev it its own topic...
Currently, GPAC is at v2.4 released 2024-04-17 (downloads at https://gpac.io/downloads/gpac-nightly-builds/).
GPAC source (with summary changelog) repo is at https://github.com/gpac/gpac/releases.
Available Windows portability info can be found at https://wiki.gpac.io/Filters/core_config/ -- basically, extract from installer with 7zip and launch with "-p [relative_path_to_GPAC.cfg]" as explained by the wiki page.
GPAC is the leader in video streaming and next-generation multimedia transcoding, packaging and delivery. By packaging we mean taking media (eg, audio, video, subtitles, images, metadata, etc) and putting them together for a purpose. This purpose can be local mezzanine storage (for later processing), playback (single file), streaming, encryption or archiving. Essentially, GPAC today is for packaging what FFmpeg is for encoding.
